Psychosomatic approach

MUDr. Lenka Bachratá

Our health is influenced by our mind more that we tend to accept. Modern science has pPsychosomatic approachroved that everything, what is happening to our mind affects our body and vice versa. Our emotions and thoughts activate in our body various processes by activation of the autonomic nervous system. Recent research has revealed that excessive activation of the autonomous nervous system, endocrine network (hormones and internal secretion glands), or the immune system accounts for several of the known paths that link emotional overload to a condition of organ dysfunction and, in some cases, even physical damage.

In holistic concept the health means not only the absence of diseases but also a good quality of life, satisfactory relationships and good wellbeing. To achieve this it is necessary to include to the health care also our mind, personal experiences, our ability to perceive and work with our body, relationships and emotions.

Psychosomatic medicine is an interdisciplinary medical field studying the relationships of social, psychological, spiritual and behavioral factors on bodily processes and quality of life in humans. As a clinical approach it focuses on health problems, where the connection with the mind is more evident and for effective treatment it is important to focus on mental processes.
